Mobile Office Hours – Times & Locations! Dear Friends, I wanted to share a quick update with you regarding an issue that is impacting many households across our region. I recently sent a letter to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) expressing my opposition to the proposed rate increases from PECO and urging the Commission to reject the company’s filings. My concern is the continued financial strain these additional increases would place on families, especially after recent rate hikes and reported revenue gains by the company. I will continue to closely monitor this proposal and advocate for transparency, accountability, and fairness throughout the review process. You can read the full release here. Sincerely,
In this Update:
Senate Holds Joint Hearing on Virtual Currency Consumer ProtectionsThis week, the Senate Communications and Technology Committee, which I chair, and the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee held a joint hearing on consumer protections related to virtual currency and virtual currency kiosks. The hearing focused on Senate Bill 1015, which I introduced to establish commonsense safeguards for the growing number of cryptocurrency kiosks operating across Pennsylvania. As this technology continues to expand, it is critical that strong consumer protections are in place, especially for seniors and other vulnerable individuals who are often targeted by scams. We heard testimony from industry representatives, consumer advocates, and the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office on ways to strengthen fraud prevention and improve transparency. I will continue working with stakeholders to ensure consumers are protected as this technology evolves. Read the full release here. Grant Awarded for Pedestrian Improvements in Lower SalfordI was proud to join Rep. Donna Scheuren in presenting a $216,000 Greenways, Trails & Recreation grant to the Lower Salford Township Board of Supervisors for pedestrian improvements along Oak Drive. This investment will enhance safety and improve walkability for residents and families who use this area every day. Projects like this help strengthen our communities by making them more accessible and connected. I look forward to seeing the progress ahead and the positive impact these improvements will have for Lower Salford Township. Expanding Broadband Access Across PennsylvaniaI was honored to participate in a fireside chat at the Broadband Cable Association of Pennsylvania’s Broadband Summit. During our discussion, we explored the importance of expanding broadband access and strengthening connectivity across both rural and urban communities. Reliable, high-speed internet is no longer a luxury, it is essential infrastructure that supports economic growth, workforce development, and access to health care. I appreciated the opportunity to engage with industry leaders on these critical issues and to continue working toward solutions that ensure all Pennsylvanians have access to the connectivity they need. Pottstown Roundtable Focuses on Educator Workforce ChallengesI was proud to participate in the Pottstown Educator Workforce Roundtable, where local leaders and stakeholders came together to address the ongoing teacher shortage in Montgomery County. During the discussion, we explored policy strategies and potential solutions to better support our educators and strengthen the workforce pipeline. Ensuring that every student has access to a quality education starts with recruiting and retaining dedicated, well-supported teachers. I appreciate the collaboration and commitment from everyone involved in this important conversation, and I remain focused on advancing efforts that support our educators and students alike. It was a meaningful experience delivering meals and connecting with members of our community. Programs like Meals on Wheels do so much more than provide food, they offer support, kindness, and a friendly check-in for those who need it most. These interactions can make a real difference in someone’s day and help strengthen the sense of community we all rely on. I’m grateful for the dedicated volunteers who make this work possible each and every day. Honoring 122 Years of Service in Hereford TownshipI was honored to be in Hereford Township to recognize three dedicated Fire Policemen—Thomas Spaar, Leroy Marks, and Harold Albitz—for their remarkable service to the community. Together, they represent an incredible 122 years of commitment to keeping their neighbors safe. Their dedication, professionalism, and willingness to serve have made a lasting impact in Hereford Township. It was a privilege to present each of them with Senate citations in recognition of their outstanding contributions. I am deeply grateful for their service and the example they set for others through their years of selfless commitment. Visiting Cub Scout Pack 73 in Upper FrederickLast week, I had the pleasure of visiting Cub Scout Pack 73 in Upper Frederick. The scouts are learning about their community and the importance of civic engagement at an early age, which is always encouraging to see. I enjoyed answering their thoughtful questions and talking with them about the election process. It’s clear these young leaders are already developing a strong sense of responsibility and curiosity about how our government works. They truly represent the future of our Commonwealth. Calling All Women Veterans: Be Part of This Year’s Commemoration
I’m excited to announce my 4th Annual Women Veterans Day Commemoration at the Capitol on June 10, 2026. As part of this special event, I am inviting women veterans from across Pennsylvania to share their reflections on “What Service Means to Me.” This is an opportunity to highlight the experiences, sacrifices, and perspectives of the women who have served our nation. Selected reflections may be featured as part of this year’s commemoration as we honor the contributions of women veterans throughout the Commonwealth. To learn more and to submit your reflection, please visit here. You’re Invited: Unclaimed Property Day in Montgomery County
In partnership with the Pennsylvania Treasury, I will host Unclaimed Property Day in the 24th District to help residents locate and claim unclaimed assets. Hundreds of thousands of dollars remain unclaimed locally, and this event is an opportunity for residents to recover funds that may belong to them. The event will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026, at two locations:
My staff, along with representatives from the Pennsylvania Treasury, will assist residents in searching the Treasury’s unclaimed property database. Claims under $500 may be processed on-site, while larger claims may require additional documentation and follow-up after the event. Residents are encouraged to bring information for themselves or family members who may have unclaimed property. Learn more and register here. Applications Open for Young Ambassadors of Pennsylvania Program
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), in partnership with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, is now accepting applications for the Young Ambassadors of Pennsylvania program through June 10. This program offers students in grades 10–12 a valuable opportunity to build leadership skills, connect with industry professionals, and take an active role in protecting our environment. Participants gain hands-on experience through initiatives such as organizing community cleanups, while also learning about recycling, public policy, and conservation. The program will run from September 2026 through May 2027 and provides a meaningful way for students to make a positive impact in their communities. Students can learn more and apply by visiting keeppabeautiful.org. I encourage any student who is passionate about the environment and making a difference to take advantage of this opportunity. Reducing Aggressive Driving, Protecting Pedestrians the Focus of Senate Hearing
Law enforcement agencies, transportation officials and community advocates discussed initiatives to discourage aggressive driving and make roads safer for pedestrians, fellow motorists and cyclists at a public hearing of the Senate Majority Policy Committee. The most effective and comprehensive approach to reducing aggressive driving involves a combination of engineering, education, enforcement and emergency response strategies, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The department collaborates with the Pennsylvania State Police, local governments, universities and other organizations to combat aggressive driving. You can read what other testifiers said and view the full hearing video here. Beware of Investment Scams on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp
Fraudulent investment schemes are appearing on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp featuring recognizable figures, like Cathie Wood (Ark Invest), Joe Kernen (CNBC) or Kevin O’Leary (CNBC) without their permission. In these “pump and dump” schemes, victims are lured into online groups and convinced to invest in cryptocurrencies or low-priced stocks. The scammers advertise, hype and recommend buying the stocks or cryptocurrencies, increasing their prices, and then sell when the price is high, while the victims lose their money. Attorney General Dave Sunday encourages anyone who may have been a victim of these types of scams to report it to the Bureau of Consumer Protection at 800-441-2555 or scams@attorneygeneral.gov.
