Pennycuick Issues Statement on District Attorney Krasner’s Challenge of SEPTA Public Safety Measure

HARRISBURG – Senate Communication & Technology Committee Chair Tracy Pennycuick (R-24) issued the following statement today in response to Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner filing an injunction for Act 40 of 2023.

“As elected officials, our number one priority must always be the safety of the public. Those who rely upon SEPTA, including many residents of my district, should never have to fear for their safety when using their vital services. Act 40 is a bi-partisan, good faith effort, which was signed into law by Gov. Shapiro, to make SEPTA a safer form of transportation for all riders.

I am disappointed by District Attorney Krasner’s response and decision to challenge this act in court.. It is unacceptable that many community members feel unsafe using this important and affordable service and this important measure can serve as an important crime prevention and prosecution tool.

I hope District Attorney Krasner will rethink his position on Act 40 and join the State Senate, State House, and Gov. Shapiro in supporting and implementing this important commonsense measure.”
