Pennycuick Offers Free Assistance to Claim Millions in Unclaimed Property within the 24th District

HARRISBURG – Sen. Tracy Pennycuick (R-24) announced today that more than $300 million in unclaimed property is being held by the state and owed to district residents, and her office can help return it.

Pennycuick and Pennsylvania Treasury officials will be available to help residents claim their property at two State Services Day events on Oct. 24:

  • In Berks County from 9-11 a.m. at the Eastern Berks Fire Department, 1817 N. Main St. in Bechtelsville.
  • In Montgomery County from 1-3 p.m. at the Schwenksville Borough Hall, 300 Main St. in Schwenksville.

Nearly $250 million is owed to residents in Montgomery County, and more than $64 million is owed to those living in Berks County. The average value of a claim is about $1,600.

Unclaimed property can be things like dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, rebates, insurance payments and more. It can also include tangible items, most often the contents of forgotten safe deposit boxes.

“This money doesn’t belong to the state, it belongs to individuals, businesses and nonprofits like volunteer fire companies and libraries – and I want to get it back to the rightful owners,” Pennycuick said. “I hope you’ll join us on October 24 to search for you, your family and any organization you may be a part of.”

Other assistance available at Senator Pennycuick’s State Services Day includes:

  • PA Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, along with county veteran agencies, will be available to aid and inform veterans.
  • PA State Police will provide information on public safety.
  • PennDOT Bureau of Motor Vehicles and Driver Licensing will answer questions, provide information and process license plate replacements.
  •  Berks Area Agency on Aging and Montgomery County Senior Services will offer assistance and education for local seniors.
  • Assistance with senior SEPTA pass applications, birth certificates and more.
