Senator to address issues surrounding cyber security, Artificial Intelligence, and data security to further create a business climate to foster innovation
HARRISBURG – Sen. Tracy Pennycuick (R-24) has been reappointed Chair of the Pennsylvania Senate Communications and Technology Committee for the new 2025-2026 legislative session.
“From robotics to artificial intelligence (AI) to digital healthcare, Pennsylvania is leading the way in technological innovation,” said Pennycuick. “I’m thrilled to continue my work as Chair of the Communications and Technology Committee to help grow this thriving sector.”
Last session the committee approved legislation to establish the first comprehensive consumer information and privacy framework, increase protections for children on social media platforms, and reformed outdated broadband and telephone regulations. The committee also focused on improving cybersecurity readiness for state and local governments, as well as cloud systems.
Additionally, Pennycuick’ s legislation, signed into law as Act 125 of 2024, closed a critical loophole by making the creation of sexual AI deepfake images’ illegal, giving law enforcement the ability to prosecute these heinous crimes and keep our children safe.
She also championed Act 33 of 2024 to give critical protection for victims of data breaches by providing affected individuals with a free credit report and a year of credit monitoring to help recover and protect their financial well-being.
This session, Pennycuick will continue her efforts to foster tech innovation, examine and improve the state’s cyber security readiness, data security and privacy issues, as well as examine additional guardrails to address the rapid expansion of AI.
Pennycuick has also been appointed to serve on the Aging and Youth Committee, the Appropriations Committee, the Finance Committee, the Judiciary Committee, the Law and Justice Committee, and Vice Chair of the Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee.
