Sen. Pennycuick Visits Saint Francis Academy to Highlight School Choice Week

BALLY – Sen. Tracy Pennycuick (R-24) visited the Saint Francis Classical Catholic Academy on Thursday, January 23rd to highlight Schools Choice Week (January 26 – February 1). Saint Francis receives educational improvement tax credits which provide scholarships to help families attend the school of their choice.

Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) is a state tax credit program that gives thousands of low- to middle income students access to high-quality schools. In FY 2023-2024, EITC received an additional $75 million, bringing the total funding for the program to a record $630 million.

“Saint Francis Classical Catholic Academy is one of many private, religious academic institutions that offer families excellent educational opportunities outside of the public school system,” said Pennycuick. “Parents should be allowed to choose where they want to send their kids to school to ensure the best academic outcome.”

New state requirements that went into effect beginning July 1, 2024, requires that 90 percent or more of scholarship donations fund eligible scholarships, with 10 percent reserved for administration fees.

Most families receiving tax credit scholarships earn below the median income level for their respective counties, and the counties with the most low-achieving public schools have the highest number of scholarship recipients.
