Pennycuick Announces State Funding for Brandywine Heights High School Solar Energy Project

HARRISBURG – Sen. Tracy Pennycuick (R-24) today announced the awarding of a state grant to help Brandywine High School install a solar energy system to cut electric costs.

Pennycuick said Brandywine Heights Area School District will receive $300,000 for the project to install a 3,806-kilowatt ground mount and parking canopy photovoltaic system on the high school campus.

The funds will be used for site preparation, purchase and installation of equipment, engineering, administration, and operations and maintenance costs. The project will cost a total of $9.2 million and will save taxpayers an average of $196,113 in energy costs each year.

“I am excited to announce this state funding to help Brandywine Heights pay for this extensive project. Every dollar a school district must spend on energy is a dollar it can’t spend on educating children,” said Pennycuick. “In addition, this will save district taxpayers nearly $200,000 a year. This is great news all around.”

The grant was awarded through the Solar for Schools Grant Program, created by lawmakers in 2024 and funded through the 2024-25 budget.

The funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development that administers many of Pennsylvania’s economic development and community improvement programs.
