HARRISBURG – U.S. Army Combat veteran Sen. Tracy Pennycuick (R-24) welcomed women who served our nation to the Capitol yesterday for her fourth annual Women Veterans Day Commemoration.
Pennycuick, who sponsored the legislation establishing June 12 as Women Veterans Day in Pennsylvania, hosted the ceremony to honor the service, sacrifice and contributions of women who have served in the military.
“Today we honor these extraordinary women and their courage, sacrifice, leadership and unwavering commitment to defending the freedoms we cherish,” Pennycuick said. “It’s important to highlight the vital role women play in the armed forces and ensure their stories are recognized across the commonwealth.”
Participants included the Pennsylvania Deputy Adjutant General, Brig. Gen. Maureen Weigl, as well as Marine Corps veteran Holly Villarreal, Army veteran Peggy Hoffman and Navy veteran Amber Viola.
In conjunction with the commemoration, a virtual display featuring 27 Pennsylvania women veterans is available online at SenatorPennycuick.com. Each display includes branch of service, rank, photo, a description of their service and what the experience meant to them.
“The contributions of women in uniform have strengthened our miliary and helped secure our nation’s future,” Pennycuick said. “Today is about honoring those contributions and ensuring that the voices and experiences of women veterans are seen, heard and valued.”
