RED HILL — Today, Sen. Tracy Pennycuick (R-24) announced the launch of a new program in partnership with First In Math®, supported by state funding she secured through the 2026-27 Commonwealth Budget for elementary schools across the 24th Senate District.
A total of $135,000 will be used to provide First In Math Hands On! Ten Wheel Kits to more than 8,000 students in first- through third-grade classrooms in public and non-public elementary schools across the district, at no cost to the schools.
“It is my privilege to provide these valuable resources to nearly 450 elementary classrooms across the district,” said Pennycuick. “Students in grades 1 through 3 are in some of the most formative years of their lives, and tools like these will help ensure they develop strong math skills they can value and take pride in. Thank you to First In Math for the important work you do to support students throughout our Commonwealth.”
These Hands On! kits are designed to turn practice into teamwork and to help make math something students look forward to. They have been used successfully in New York State Mathematics Tournaments to promote collaborative work and higher-order thinking among students in grades 1 through 8. Every educator in the 24th Senate District who teaches grades 1 through 3 will receive a packet containing:
- A Ten Wheels/Factor Wheels kit for classroom use.
- A Ten Wheels Mini Kit for each student to take home, along with parent guides featuring 10 early math activities.
“Early math success is the strongest predictor we have of how a child will do in school and in life, and Senator Pennycuick had the foresight to act on it,” said Robert Sun, inventor of the 24® game and CEO of First In Math. “These kits give parents a proven, fifteen-minute game to play at the kitchen table — and the joy of watching their child grow confident in math, one evening at a time.”
