RED HILL – Today, Sen. Tracy Pennycuick (R-24) sent a letter to the Pennsylvania Utility Commission to oppose proposed rate increase by PECO.
In a letter sent April 9, Senator Pennycuick urged the PUC to reject PECO’s recent regulatory filings seeking additional increases to electric and natural gas rates expressing concern that PECO’s proposals would place further financial strain on residents already facing high utility costs.
She noted that PECO was granted significant rate increases in January 2025, including a 10% hike for electric service and a 12.5% increase for natural gas. Following these increases, the company reported a 47.7% rise in net revenue, totaling $814 million for the year.
“Despite this substantial revenue growth, PECO is now seeking additional rate increases—12.5% for residential electric customers and 11.4% for residential natural gas customers—amounting to a combined cost of $429 million for consumers,” said Pennycuick.
“These proposed increases come on the heels of already substantial rate hikes and significant revenue gains,” she said. “At a time when families are continuing to face financial pressures, any additional burden on ratepayers deserves careful scrutiny.”
Pennycuick added she will continue to monitor the proposal and advocate for transparency and fairness for consumers throughout the review process.
