HARRISBURG — Sen. Tracy Pennycuick (R-24th) announced grants she secured for community projects in Berks County today. The awards, which total over $1.1 million, were approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) through the Local Share Account (LSA) Statewide Program.
“Ensuring that our local emergency services and public works officials have the resources necessary to operate at full strength is essential to keeping our communities safe and thriving,” said Pennycuick. “I’m proud to announce these grants and help deliver vital state investments that support Berks County’s continued wellbeing.”
The following projects will receive funding:
Berks County will receive $75,000 to purchase and upfit a new hazmat turnout vehicle for its Department of Emergency Services.
Berks County Redevelopment Authority will receive $100,000 to restore sections of the historic Colebrookdale Railroad, including a bridge rehabilitation project.
Douglass Township (Berks County) will receive $202,100 to purchase a new backhoe for its public works department.
Douglass Township (Berks County) will also receive $300,000 for improvements to Ganshahawny Park. The improvements include parking lot paving, ADA-accessible footpaths, gravel truck and boat parking, separate concrete ramps for boats and emergency vehicles, and the creation of a separate picnic/fishing area.
Hereford Township will receive $157,998 to purchase a new backhoe for its public works department.
Rockland Township will receive $362,478 to purchase a new ambulance for Topton Ambulance.
The PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act (Act 2004-71), provides for the distribution of gaming revenues through the CFA to support projects in the public interest within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The CFA is an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development that administers the commonwealth’s economic stimulus packages.
