HARRISBURG – Legislation cosponsored by Sen. Tracy Pennycuick (R-24) to require disclosure of AI-generated content used to sell consumer goods is headed for enactment after passage by the House of Representatives.
Senate Bill 806 will require disclosure of AI-generated content such as images, audio, video and text used for the sale of consumer goods. The disclaimer will ensure transparency by giving consumers the information they need to make informed decisions and not be misled.
“This is a practical consumer protection measure that reflects the growing role of artificial intelligence in pitching products to consumers,” said Pennycuick, who chairs the Senate Communications and Technology Committee. “While businesses need to use AI to maintain competitiveness, we can’t let that happen at the expense of misleading consumers with fake content.”
The bill was approved by the Senate in June.
